Well it wouldn't be my first camera. I have a crappy digital camera, But I think it's time for a new one. I searched around and found how good the Nikon D40 is. I'm not really sure how much it cost but I do think it's around 600?

First camera ever, or just first camera for photography?

If you've got that extra cash in your pocket, don't need a compact camera, and are willing to learn how to use the camera properly, go for the D40, especially if you're into photography too, somewhat.

If you're not really into photography, then I guess it just depends if you've got the extra cash to drop on the D40. The picture quality will be superior over most of your friends' cameras, but again, it's not the most compact camera in the world.

You think i should bother buying a Nikon D40? As a first camera.
